      Rhynchophorus ferrugineus
A lot of love, care and attention goes into looking after palm trees,  keeping them cut back, cleaning out dead wood and 2.5 - 3.0 CM
shaping and shaving them is just for starters.  If you're not qualified and experienced then you risk making the tree look a
real mess, not to mention the safety issues involved.
If you're not roped in correctly and inexperienced within this field then you're asking for trouble.
Never attempt to fell any large tree yourself, which could result in personal injury or damage to your home.

I have lived on the Costa Blanca for over 10 years and whilst I lived in the UK I worked and qualified with Southern
Tree Surgeons Ltd,  I now live in Moraira and run the business with a trusted team, along with my wife Lorraine. RED PALM WEEVIL

Things have recently developed on the Costa Blanca regarding our palm trees, we are now sadly faced with several
ongoing problems which are threatening the life span of our palms and if left untreated will result in the loss of many trees.
We have encountered the RED PALM WEEVIL a nasty little red bug that boars into the trunk of the tree and over a
period of time eats it away, sucking the life out of it.
When it's done it flies on to it's next victim and starts the process all over again.

Our aims are to prevent these problems intensifying by applying the simple action 'prevention is better than cure'.
In the worse case scenerio your palm is 'left for dead', what was once a beautiful focal point in your garden now needs
to be removed and burnt by your local town hall, not only is it a lot of hassle but your garden is left with a gaping void.

Infected trees must be treated to save them, sprayed 3 to 4 times a year, from the end of February to the end of November. YOU'RE TOO LATE!
The Red Palm Weevil bug is attracted by the smell created when the tree has been cut or trimmed, our recommendation
is to treat your palm once you have maintained your tree, to help as a preventative measure against palm tree disease,
control and pest management of the Red Palm Weevil is paramount to guard against infestation and any other fungal problems.

Working together will help save our beautiful palm trees, otherwise the Mediterranean will loose one of it's national treasures
and all we will be inundated with, will be the common pine tree.
We treat palms for the following diseases and problems:

           THE RED PALM WEEVIL
           THE PALM TREE BORER
           FUNGI PROBLEMS
THE RED PALM WEEVIL
This is an insect that lives and feeds on the inside of the trunk, making it difficult to detect.
Your tree may be infested but not show any symptoms for several months,
therefore the best solution is to treat your palm preventively. RED PALM WEEVIL & LARVAE
Palm trees most commonly affected are the following;
DATE PALM  *  CANARIENSIS PALM  *  COCONUT PALM

THE PALM TREE BORER
The palm tree has visible symptoms after the larvae has completed the interior damage.
Observe when the leaves have unfolded, fan shaped holes, perforations or bites spread
PHOENIX PALM out over the central bud, fibre and sawdust should be visable near the crown and the
exterior areas of the trunk.  If the number of caterpillars are vast within the interior of
the tree, this could most certainly lead to the death of the tree.
Palm trees most commonly affected are the following; PALM & GARDEN CARE
PHOENIX PALM  *  CANARIENSIS PALM  *  WASHINGTONIAS PALM

FUNGI PROBLEMS
This is a vascular fungus, which initially affects the older leaves.
It begins with yellowing on the leaflets and thorns at the base of the rachis.
This yellowing progresses asymmetrically throughout all the leaflets on one side of the
branch, ascending to the apex.  Eventually, the frond is affected and becomes a straw
COCOON yellow colour with a dry appearance.
home of the larvae On the rachis, there is a line that at first looks a little oily, until eventually it turns a brown
colour of variable width and extends almost the entire length of the rachis. SMALL HOLES
